In our communities there is currently a lack of affordable housing options. Coupled with rising rates of unemployment and living costs, this has contributed to a growing number of families and individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Research shows that over half of these are women, most with minor children. In addition, those who are homeless often struggle with a complex array of other issues such as addiction, mental health difficulties, abuse, and crime victimization. There are few organizations in the area that provide for the needs of this population, with far fewer accommodations than the growing need.
