Emergency Residence Project - Ames helps avoid eviction or utility loss A list of agencies (names, addresses and phone numbers) which together may help with a variety of needs including rent, food, clothing, and others, is available under the Other County Resources heading on this page. Their agency’s applications for rent or utility assistance are accepted between 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM Monday and Thursday .
If these times are not possible call them to see if another time can be arranged.
Financial help must be limited to once in a 12 month period and we must limit our assistance to Story County Residents. Individuals who wish to apply must first go to Story County Community Services to see if they are eligible for rent or utility assistance.
If they have monthly utility expenses that are not included in the rent they should also go to Mid Iowa Community Action (MICA) as this may free up an applicant’s own money that could then go towards rent.
Applicants will need a decision letter from the above agencies before coming to us and the other smaller (usually church related) agencies which are on the lists that Story County and MICA will provide.
Applicants usually need to seek help from more than one place on the list because there are limits to how much each each agency can spend.
Please bring: ID and the decision letter(s) and supporting documentation (such as landlord information or utility bills) with you when you come to apply.
Mission Statement: We provide shelter and support to those experiencing homelessness while striving to prevent individuals from becoming homeless
