St. Vincent de Paul Middletown focuses on "meeting needs and offering hope" to the poor and homeless in greater Middletown. Over 1075 individuals are served 84,000 nutritious meals each year through our Community Soup kitchen, 11% or 9130 of the meals are served to children. Over 1400 people seek basic support services and emergency funds through our Community Assistance Program. Sometimes all it takes is an illness or unfortunate event and you have to choose between paying utility bill, groceries, or even your rent. At SVDM, you may be able to avoid spiraling down into deeper poverty, loss of utilities, or even losing your apartment as you strive to get back on your feet. As the second part of the Community Assistance Program their Community Assistance Coordinator Val Smith will see if you qualify for emergency funds in the form of a small loan or stipend. If appropriate, a check can be sent to your landlord, utility company or other creditor to help regain your balance. Supportive Housing Program: A program used to provide housing to people who have a history of homelessness, mental, physical, and addiction disabilities. Tenants who have income pay 30% of their adjusted gross income towards their monthly rent and utilities. The participants signs his/her own rental lease, the State or Federal government provides the rental subsidy, and St. Vincent de Paul Middletown helps to facilitate payments and services.
