Mercy Housing and Shelter Corporation provides housing assistance and supportive services to persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Mercy works to empower its clients to become independent, so they may live and work with dignity and respect. Mercy seeks to end homelessness by advocating for changes in the social systems that perpetuate homelessness. Mercy welcomes and serves all in need in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy, who founded the organization in 1983. Supportive Housing Services: Mercy Supportive Housing Services combines a rental subsidy and supportive services for chronically homeless persons with very low incomes, serious and persistent conditions including substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, mental illness or co-occurring disabilities. Case managers provide ongoing support and assist clients with daily living tasks as well as goal setting and life skills. The goal of supportive housing is to help clients be successful in permanent housing, and give them a place to call "Home". Last year, Supportive Housing: Provided Case Management support for 130 households in scattered-site apartments in the Hartford and Middletown Counties Assisted 100% of residents to participate in treatment Worked with residents to increase life skills through workshops and one on one meetings with their case manager.
